Hundreds of young performers have auditioned for a chance to star in De Montfort Hall’s Christmas pantomime.
Almost 200 children from across Leicestershire attended the auditions on Sunday 17 June for the chance to bag a part in this year’s Peter Pan production.
There were parts up for grabs in the junior chorus, as well as for the first time this year, acting roles for the Darling children – John and Michael.
Antony Flint, De Montfort Hall general manager, said: “We always look forward to pantomime audition day and this year went brilliantly. Every year the standard gets higher and higher and we have some amazingly talented young people joining us for Peter Pan this year.”
Steve Boden, from Imagine Theatre which co-produces the pantomime with De Montfort Hall, said: “We were very impressed with the talent on show on Sunday, this was the best audition day we have had yet. We had to make some difficult decisions, but we are really pleased with the performers we have and cannot wait to start working with them.”
A total of 30 young people were chosen to cover the available roles and will star alongside former Coronation Street actor Kevin Kennedy, CBeebies’ Cat Sandion and Britain’s Got Talent’s Kev Orkian.
X Factor winner Sam Bailey returns for her third season, and BBC Radio Leicester’s Martin Ballard will play the Dame.
Antony Flint added: “We are very excited to stage Peter Pan this year, one of the most popular pantomimes of all, our seventh pantomime at the hall. Audiences can look forward to all their traditional panto favourites – spectacular singing and dancing, corny jokes, audience participation – and the odd custard pie!”
Peter Pan runs flies into the hall from Saturday 15 December to Sunday 6 January.
