Nothing puts me off a band faster than when their Facebook page proclaims them to be “Irrefutably the greatest band in the world”. Thankfully The Whiskey Rebellion follow that bold claim by immediately refuting it. It’s a nice dichotomy, and they’re just as likeable on record. Funeral Songs is nothing ground-breaking but it’s absolutely not trying to be. These Celtic Punk songs are, for the most part, break neck slices of fun. The band pause ever so briefly on Goodwin Sands to catch their breath before tearing through the albums closing tracks. Such relentless pace is refreshing, but it also makes it a little hard to pick stand-out tracks from the crop.
