Review: Martha Bean – Slippers to a Wedding

Martha Bean is one of Leicester’s most understatedly accomplished songwriters, and she could serve to be shouted about more. Slippers to a Wedding is a perfectly balanced piece of lush acoustic pop that delivers on all the promise of Martha’s earlier output.

The vocal performance is laden with character that shows both incredible ability and a considered, thoughtful approach to the delivery as much as the bones of the songwriting.

The instrumentation is deceptively simple, with vocals and acoustic guitar front and centreĀ fleshed out with subtle piano and upright bass that make for a really magical arrangement. This is a considered, delicate and refined piece of work that doesn’t put a foot wrong.
