Review: Martha Bean – Slippers to a Wedding

Martha Bean is one of Leicester’s most understatedly accomplished songwriters, and she could serve to be shouted about more. Slippers to a Wedding is a perfectly balanced piece of lush acoustic pop that delivers on all the promise of Martha’s earlier output.

The vocal performance is laden with character that shows both incredible ability and a considered, thoughtful approach to the delivery as much as the bones of the songwriting.

The instrumentation is deceptively simple, with vocals and acoustic guitar front and centre¬†fleshed out with subtle piano and upright bass that make for a really magical arrangement. This is a considered, delicate and refined piece of work that doesn’t put a foot wrong.
