Everyone likes surprises, right? I mean, sort of – I once nearly got into a massive argument with someone for trying to get Frankie and Benny’s to sing Happy Birthday to me – but generally, everyone likes the kind of surprise that comes along with receiving a gift. If you’re a fan of indie music, Shh! are promising that their new night at Brewdog will be a gift for your ears, eyes, and other sensory organs.

The premise of Shh! is a simple one, essentially inverting the current “secret gig” format used by huge bands. There are going to be three bands playing at Brewdog on October 15th – and you can buy tickets now – but you won’t know who said bands are until they climb on stage and start playing. It’s the gig equivalent of the Mystery Film at the Phoenix, and it’s perfect for the type of person who loves live music in all its forms. It’s a great way to discover new acts and new material, and also a cool idea if you find yourself at a loose end of an evening.

The guys behind Shh! are being understandably very cagey about the event, keeping the identities of the three bands tightly under wraps. They’ve released a couple of tantalising details – for example, two of the bands playing are London-based, but the other band comes from some place called America. It’s not often we see trans-Atlantic musicians playing in bars in Leicester, so that alone could well be worth the entry fee.

As this is the first event, there’s also the “pick-ture” giveaway – you could win 2 VIP tickets, a £50 Brewdog bar tab and a 3 month subscription to the Flying Vinyl music subscription box (think Lootcrate but for 7” singles). All you need to do is find one of the Shh! branded guitar picks which have been distributed around venues in Leicester, take a selfie with it and post it to Instagram tagging @shh_music. Easy!

All in all, it looks set to be a fascinating event – open your mind, your heart and your ears, and get down to Brewdog. You never know what you might discover.

Shh No. 1 takes place at Brewdog on 15th October.
