One of the most high profile Black British Neo-Soul stars, Omar, will grace the 2Funky Music Café stage with a live full band this weekend. This is Omar’s third visit to the city, previous performances, include the Peepul Centre, with Leicester’s Carol Leeming and Random Acts of Senseless Beauty in support and a brief PA appearance for 2Funky Festival in Braunstone Gate.
Omar is an accomplished singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalism who often records many of the instruments himself on his songs. He is an MBE and has received numerous music awards, but is known for his smooth baritone voice, best heard on his classic romantic song There’s Nothing Like This – a seductive mix of soul and reggae, which typifies his love of fusion.
Leicester fans want to hear songs from his new album Love In Beats which offers a wonderful mélange of Zouk, Funk and Jazz, recorded with a stellar line up of contributors including Soul classic iconic vocalist Leon Ware, British vocal wunderkind Natasha Watts and rap lyrical don Ty among others. Omar is one of the performers, for the artists for Grenfell cover single Bridge Over Troubled Water, in aid of those affected by the Grenfell Tower Tragedy.
Omar and Live Band is at 2 Funky Music Café New Park St Leicester from 7pm on Friday 29 September 2017.
