As part of this years Black History 2017 new literary movers and shakers Leicester Writers’ Showcase, host a brilliant evening feast of poetry, to celebrate the centenary, of the most exquisite dazzling, beloved stars of modern era Jazz – Ella Fitzgerald vocalist and Thelonious Monk pianist composer.

The event will also include specially written new poetry by local stellar poets of regional and national acclaim, inspired by these two legendary giants of jazz.  With poetry being read from the Harlem Renaissance Jazz period, this will be a night of poetry inspired by Jazz music and culture.

Ella Fitzgerald inspired poetry will be read by Deborah Tyler-Bennett, Carol Leeming, Emma Lee, Eddy Lunt, and Michele Witthaus. It will also include Poetryin tribute to Thelonious Monk, along with Charles Launder‘s own poetry and poems from Newport News VA USA, Ella Fitzgerald’s birthplace.

Leicester Writers’ Showcase Ella @ 100 takes place on Wednesday 18th Oct 2017 at Central Library Bishop St Leicester.

Carol Leeming FRSA works as a Multi-Artist, and freelance writer: of poetry, plays, prose, magazine articles and Blogs. Carol’s work is published widely, in print, and online. Carol's creative writing is performed onstage and broadcast on radio. Carol is a director of music and theatre, and a curator of diverse arts cultural events locally and regionally.
