Get your comfortable shoes and your black T-shirts ready, and start deciding which member of the Leicester City squad you’d most like to be known as for a few hours. This week, Dan Nicholas and Megazone bring you Comedy Tag…
Megazone is great. Like, really great. I had my 30th birthday party there, that’s how great it is. There’s little better in this life than shuffling around a dark room shooting people with lasers, and I will go to my grave thinking so. During the Leicester Comedy Festival in February, Dan Nicholas and Megazone decided to team up to bring an entirely unique show to the line-up – Comedy Tag. A mixture of tactical laser violence and stand-up comedy, it was a huge success and this Thursday you can have another chance to get involved.
Comedy tag features four comedians – namely Chris Purchase (Hobgoblin Comedian of the Year, Luton Comedian of the Year), Harriet Dyer (Midlands Stand Up Award finalist), Lucy Thompson (Best Debut Show and Best Show nominee, Leicester Comedy Festival) and Rahul Kohli (as heard on BBC Asian Network) – as team captains for the most incredible game of laser tag you’ve ever played. “The comedians get really into it,” says Dan. “They dress up and play mini games – and there’s a variety of different round types on offer.”
Comedy Tag is part of a programme of shows that Dan is producing, all with the goal of taking a comedy show and subverting or twisting it into a new and unusual form. The next event in the programme is D.A.N.C.E. (or Defining A New Comedy Experience) in which comedians perform their act and dancers improvise around it – and then they switch.
This edition of Comedy Tag is Western themed, with the comedians likely to don costumes and, I would hope, attempt a terrible Texan drawl. The Comedy Festival event was a sell-out, so make sure to get your tickets while you can.
Comedy Tag will be taking place at Megazone, Gower Street on Thursday 18th May from 8pm. Tickets can be booked online at megazoneleicester.co.uk or by phone on 0116 253 1153, and cost £15.
