Leicester Comedy Festival is known for having shows in usual locations from cars to hotel rooms, but an art gallery? For the first time artist led gallery Two Queens will be hosting shows by comedians Sean Morley and Top Joe next month as part of the Festival.

Two Queens has held its home at in Leicester’s cultural quarter since 2011, with the ambition of providing a centre for experimental modes of arts production, exhibition and exchange. Since then it has become one of the most popular spots in the city to see contemporary and unusual art. With the founders being one of the lead figures in Leicester Art Week and with the recent refurbishments now holding music events such as Kermes, it was only a matter of time before they became involved in the cities biggest festival.

Headed up by award nominated promoters Daniel Nicholas and Jokes on Us Free Festival, Two Queens will be set deliver two events as part of this year’s comedy festival. The first on the first weekend of the festival being the alternative styling’s of Sean Morley, who will be performing his show ‘Earned Helplessness’  which was nominated for ‘Best Show’ in the festival and has been at hit at various festivals across the country and beyond. The man himself has been heard delivering his jokes on BBC Radio 2, and rumour has it, it will be the last time performing this hit show.

On the 16th of feb Two Queens will have their space invaded by the merseyside comedian Chris Jenkins with his character Top Joe and cult show ‘Leaving the House’, a recent winner of Liverpool Echo Comedian of the year,  this hi-vis sporting Welshman is venturing and out the house and ishoping it will be worth it as he shares his hopes, fears, 80s cassette collection and vitamin supplements with all who are equally as brave. Gaining cult status from performances at Edinburgh Fringe, Latitude, Contact Theatre, and Laughterhouse Live, this is Chris’ debut show in Leicester Comedy Festival

Promoter Nicholas mentions his excitement at having these two hit acts. “I couldn’t think of any two acts more perfect to do their shows at Two Queens than Top Joe and Sean Morley. The space itself is unlike any other in the Comedy Festival, and it’s thrilling to see the enthusiasm that both the venue and the acts have to be a part of the comedy festival. It’s also great to be part of the Jokes on Us Free festival, the work Alex (Hylton- organiser) has put into it over the years is a marvel, and i’m glad we can as a venue we can be part of their roster”

Sean Morley ‘Earned Helplessness’ will be on the 9th of February, and Top Joe ‘Leaving the House’ the 16th at Two Queens. Both Shows are pay what you think and you can reserve your free ticket at www.comedy-festival.co.uk.
