“Back in 2015 we had the idea to organise a regular indie club night in our hometown and on our own terms” explains Dave Dhonau. “It came partly from our feeling disillusioned with unscrupulous and / or incompetent promoters and gig lineups that seemed to lack any guiding aesthetic.”

Candy Dust is a semi-regular night of music curated by Leicester’s Dayflower which basks in a gloriously lo-fi, sonically unusual world. This December sees their line-up graced by Kermes, Dayflower themselves, Jitterz and Sweetbellechobaby.

“Our approach means handpicking each lineup with the same care that we put into our band’s recordings” continues Dave. “We settled on the name Candy Dust and approached The Cookie (one of Leicester’s finest music venues) who were immediately supportive.”

Over the past two years the ‘dust nights have seen performances from both homegrown and far flung acts. Their summer show saw Emperor X and Christian Holden of The Hotelier from Berlin and Massachusetts respectively, and in contrast, their winter effort features a clutch of Leicester based acts – representing a local scene which is going from strength to strength.

But Candy Dust is more than just the bands. “Our in-house DJ sets the tone with a dreamy indie disco and the space is drenched with washed out, psychedelic visuals. Add to that a wall covered in free sweets and sometimes even exclusive releases and you have a genuine multi-sensory feast!”

Candy Dust takes place on December 8th at The Cookie, featuring Kermes, Dayflower, Jitterz and sweetbellechobaby. Check out the playlist below for a taste of the acts.
