Phoenix cinema and art centre chairman Professor Alan Tuckett been honoured by UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) in recognition for his contribution to developing lifelong learning worldwide.

A Leicester resident, Professor Tuckett was awarded the distinction of ‘UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) Honorary Fellow’ at a ceremony in Hamburg, Germany on Tuesday 27 September.

Professor Tuckett has honorary degrees from eight universities, is Professor of Education at Wolverhampton University and is a visiting professor at Leicester University.

Alan said: “I am deeply honoured by this award. The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning leads the world in my area of work, so I am naturally flattered to be recognised in this way.”

At Phoenix, Leicester’s independent cinema and art centre, Alan is the charity’s Chair of Trustees, a position he was appointed to in August 2014.

Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Great Central, John has been actively involved in Leicester's creative community for over a decade - promoting shows and releasing records under the name Robot Needs Home. He is a director of Handmade Festival, and ex member of the band Maybeshewill.
