The Leicestershire and Rutland Society of Architects (LRSA) have announced their first Love Architecture Festival taking place between 2 October and 1 November at the LCB Depot as part of the venue’s Design Season. The festival aims to celebrate Leicester and its surrounds as a hub of architectural design and practice excellence.

Events are scheduled throughout the month with something for everyone. The professional programme includes a series of talks and events featuring notable practitioners from the region and beyond, including an opportunity to hear from Award-winning Ash Sakula Architects, Evans Vettori and Takero Shimazaki Architects. There’s also a walking tour, ale trail and an opportunity to Meet the Architect and get a free half-hour design consultation with an RIBA chartered architect. For the young (and young at heart) there are Lego events on Saturday 13th and 20th October in which participants are encouraged to build their own Leicester and to Challenge the Architect in various Lego-building challenges! Joint LRSA Presidents, Jennifer Oxley and Sylvester Cheung, who are helping to organise the Festival said: “We are very excited to bring an action-packed line up of architectural events and exhibitions to Leicester this October. If you’re an architect or have an interest in your city, there’s something for you. Check out our events page for full details of everything that’s happening!”

RIBA East Midlands Chair, Sam Culling, Director of Core Architects in Lincoln, added:

“It’s fantastic to see such an inspiring and varied programme of Architecture-related events taking place in the region thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Leicestershire and Rutland branch. I wish them every success and would encourage architects, students and non-architects alike to go along, show their support and get involved throughout October.”

During October, the LCB Depot’s Lightbox gallery will also be home to a Love Architecture Festival exhibition, in which you can find out more about local architecture in the Leicester Retrospective. The exhibition, which will also showcase work from local architects in Leicestershire and Rutland, will give a glimpse of what LRSA member practices are doing right now, alongside some of the top student work from two of the regional schools of Architecture: De Montfort and Loughborough Universities.
