Sports and entertainment journalists from across the UK gathered at the 02 Arena in London on the morning of Thursday, December 15th, where World Wrestling Entertainment’s Chief Operating Officer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, made a historic announcement – in January of next year, 16 professional wrestlers from the United Kingdom and Ireland will compete in a single-elimination tournament to crown the first-ever WWE United Kingdom Champion.
The tournament will be broadcast live from the historic Empress Ballroom in Blackpool on WWE’s on-demand video service, the WWE Network, on the 14th and 15th of January next year.
As we learn more about the 16 competitors in the tournament, it has been revealed that one of them is Jack Starz; a professional wrestler who was born and raised in Ratby, Leicestershire. For around 7 years, Starz has been training with Brookside’s School Of Wrestling; a training school based in Leicester City, under the tutelage of Darren “Thunder Walsh”, Gareth Harris and current WWE/NXT trainer Robbie Brookside. He has worked up and down the country for some of the biggest wrestling promotions in the UK, including holding multiple titles. He is the only wrestler in the tournament to come from the Leicester area and, at just 24 years old, he’s one of the youngest competitors in the tournament.
