Hey – remember February? That was a great time, wasn’t it? I mean, it was markedly awful in a lot of ways, but the Leicester Comedy Festival was on and you could just pop out and experience a great night full of comedy almost whenever you fancied. Well you know what? We don’t need a festival to make comedy happen.
Leicester’s excellent monthly comedy roster is being joined by a new and already-impressive night at the newly-renovated Shed venue, hosted by Leicester’s own award-winning northern import Alex Hylton. Laugh A Minute promises to bring a “regular, full-professional” show to the city, which Alex believes “could take the local scene to the next level”. The line up for the first show is certainly impressive, boasting local hero and LCF Best Show nominee Lucy Thompson (herself co-host of Comedy and Cocktails) and headliner Scott Bennett.
Scott is a veteran of the comedy scene, recently finishing as runner-up in the English Comedian of the Year Award and fresh from a national tour with Rob Brydon. You’ll soon be seeing a lot more of him, too, as he’s been appointed a team captain on the TV show Panelbeaters alongside the likes of Jason Manford. Alex says “It’s looking like it’s going to be a great addition to the Leicester Comedy Scene. There are some brilliant comedy clubs in Leicester, but it’s so exciting to see this show added to the city”.
The Shed’s refurbishment and recent re-opening has seen it venture into a wider artistic territory, and comedy is a string that proprietor Elisabeth Barker-Carley was keen to add to its bow. “At The Shed, we all love a bit of a chuckle. And we love stand-up too, but our staff don’t know too much about it, so we’ve brought in some of the best emerging talent to perform!”
Laugh A Minute’s opening night is Friday April 14th at 8pm.
