Do you fancy drinking great coffee and eating tasty, healthy food in a stunning Grade II Listed building? Then rejoice! Because the former Barclays Bank on Horsefair Street has become Prana Café, and it’s got plenty to recommend it. The food is almost entirely vegan and is prepared with serious attention to detail and a focus on powerful plant-based flavours. The mixed bean bowl with fresh humous is tastier than any salad has a right to be and the cherry brownie is utter hedonism, as well as being both dairy and gluten free. The coffee is fancy London brand Square Mile, and it’s made using a Victoria Arduino VA338 Black Eagle. I know – it sounds more like a fighter plane than a coffee machine, but it sure makes great coffee. There are regular drop-in yoga sessions during the week and the owner tells me they’ll soon be doing vegan afternoon teas and documentary screenings. All of this in a jaw-droppingly handsome venue right next to Town Hall Square.
